Pearl River sweeps Co-Lin in South Division openers

POPLARVILLE Pearl River Community College swept Copiah-Lincoln in MACJC South Division women and men soccer action here Friday with a pair of shutout victories. The Lady Wildcats took a 6-0 win, while the Wildcats were 4-0 winners in the division openers for both schools. PRCC women remain undefeated at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in division play, while its men are now 5-1 and 1-0. CLCC women dropped to 2-3 and 0-1, while its men are now 1-4 and 0-1. In women action, things were scoreless for the first 15-plus minutes Emmaleigh Davis, a University of Memphis transfer who prepped at Resurrection Catholic in Pascagoula, was good on a penalty kick at the 29:20 mark of the first half to make it 1-0 PRCC. Some 15 minutes later, Jordan Organ of Forrest County AHS booted in a free kick for the Lady Wildcats second goal, while Carleigh Holley of Tupelo High and Presley Stigletts of Oak Grove High scored goals at the 12:30 and 11:48 marks to give Pearl River a 4-0 lead at the break. Charlotte Crisp of Surrey, England, made it 5-0 with a goal with 31:50 left before Jessica Kirkwood of George County High ended the scoring with a successful boot at the 15:40 mark. In men action, PRCC forward Pacer Frierson had a banner day scoring three of his team four goals in the 4-0 shutout. The freshman forward from Picayune Memorial High kicked in his first at the 34:54 mark of the first half before James Zanelli of Essex, U.K., scored a goal at the 13:58 mark to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at the intermission. Frierson two other goals came at the 26:38 and 16:41 (free kick) marks of the second half. PRCC returns to action Tuesday when MACJC South Division rival Mississippi Gulf Coast plays host in Perkinston at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men), then it a non-division road trip to Itawamba Saturday, Sept. 17 in Fulton with game times at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).
