Chamber honors members of PRCC community

  POPLARVILLE - The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce honored a Pearl River Community College employee and the son of two other employees Thursday, Nov. 3, during the chamber’s annual Awards Luncheon.
  Carol Williams, PRCC’s social media coordinator, received the Citizen of the Year Award and Gabe Entrekin received the Future Leader of the Year Award. He is the 15-year-old son of Taylor and Candice Entrekin, PRCC electrician and nursing instructor, respectively.

Alumni Association going to West Coast

  POPLARVILLE - The Pearl River Community College Alumni Association is putting together an 8-day trip to the West Coast in May.
  The cost of $2,950 is for double room occupancy and includes round-trip airfare, bus transportation, seven nights in hotels, four breakfasts, three dinners and admission to museums and tours.
  A deposit of $830 is required by Wednesday, Nov. 16, to reserve a place. The remaining fee is to be paid in increments of $530 on the 16th of December, January, February and March.

Columbia center to have welding class

  A welding course is being offered by Pearl River Community College at the Carl Loftin Career and Technology Center in Columbia.
  The course will meet from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 3 and ending May 24. Cost is $250.
  Students will earn an industry recognized certificate in welding, including applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, basic lift truck operator OSHA certification and NCCER credentials in introductory craft skills core curriculum and Level I and II welding.

CNA course to be taught in Carson

  Pearl River Community College will offer a certified nursing assistant course at the Jefferson Davis County Career and Technical Center in Carson.
  The class will meet from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Jan. 3 and ending March 16.
  Only eight students will be accepted. Students must be 18 before the class starts and provide their own maroon uniforms.
  Cost for the course is $275 and includes a workbook and fee for the state licensing examination.

PRCC celebrates homecoming

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College celebrated homecoming Saturday, Oct. 29, with reunions, awards, beautiful girls and a new men’s choir.
  PRCC President Dr. William Lewis crowned Ellen Hall of Purvis as queen after she and her court of eight maids were presented to the crowd at halftime.

Fall choral festival set for Nov. 3

  POPLARVILLE - The Pearl River Community College Department of Fine Arts and Communication will host the Fall Choral Festival at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Brownstone Center for the Arts.
  Seven schools will participate in the festival along with the PRCC Men’s Choir and Belle Cantanti, the PRCC women’s choir. Both are conducted by LaDona Tyson, PRCC director of choral groups.
  Participating schools are Pearl River Central, Picayune, Poplarville, Forrest County AHS, Sumrall, Oak Grove and Petal Middle School.
  There is no admission fee.

Awards to be presented at homecoming

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will honor two alumni and an organization with awards Saturday, Oct. 29, during homecoming.
  John Pigott of Picayune will receive the Alumnus of the Year Award and alumnus John Clearman of Sumrall and the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District will receive Distinguished Service Awards.
  The awards will be presented during the Alumni Luncheon in Olivia Bender Cafeteria in Poplarville.

Politics takes center stage on Oct. 25

  POPLARVILLE - Just two weeks before the presidential election, opinions will be plentiful at Pearl River Community College when commentators Bakari Sellers and Cal Thomas discuss America’s future.
  Complimentary tickets are available for the Crossroads presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Brownstone Center for the Arts.
  Sellers is considered a rising star in the Democratic Party and provides commentary and analysis for CNN and MSNBC.
  Thomas, a syndicated newspaper columnist and syndicated radio host, is a panelist on the Fox News Watch show.
