Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame to honor five alumni

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will honor five outstanding alumni with induction into the Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame.
  They are Lucien Bourgeois of Madison, Fred Henley of Picayune, Sonny Stuart of Jacksonville, Fla., Mike Waits of Hattiesburg and Bill Watts of Houston, Texas.
  They will be inducted on Thursday, April 7, at Southern Oaks House and Gardens in Hattiesburg. A reception will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Iota Mu PTK inducts new members

  POPLARVILLE - The Iota Mu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Pearl River Community College inducted 48 new members in a March 3 ceremony at the Brownstone Center for the Arts.
  The new members were invited to join the international honor society after excelling academically.

PRCC hosts junior high math competition

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College hosted the District Level Math Competition for junior high and middle school students on Monday, Feb. 29, on the Poplarville campus.
  First place in seventh grade went to Wyatt Carter from Petal Middle School with classmate Quinn Puckett taking second place.
  Thomas Sanchez, also from Petal Middle School, took first place in eighth grade. Second place went to Grayson Nocera from Presbyterian Christian School.

Science Olympiad brings hundreds to campus

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College hosted hundreds of middle and high school students Saturday, Feb. 20, for the 2016 Mississippi Gulf South Regional Science Olympiad.
  St. Patrick placed first in the middle school division followed by North Woolmarket and Petal Middle School.
  Forrest County Agricultural High School came in first in the high school division. St. Patrick was second and Oak Grove High School was third.

Due to the threat of severe weather, all PRCC locations will close at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Feb 23, 2016. Night classes are cancelled. Dormitories will remain open for resident students. The college will re-open at 8:00am on Wed Feb 24, 2016. Please be careful during this weather system and check the PRCC website and media for any changes. Stay alert and stay safe.

Anderson links black history lessons to promises of future

  POPLARVILLE - State Rep. Jeramey Anderson challenged Pearl River Community College students to continue the work of the civil rights leaders who changed America.
  Anderson, who played soccer at PRCC in 2010-12, was the speaker for a Feb. 16 Black History Month program on the Poplarville campus.
  “Today we honor those fearless leaders who marched 50 years ago,” he said. “Because they marched, America changed for me and you.”

Band Clinic concerts open to public

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will host the PRCC Band Clinic for secondary students on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20, on the Poplarville campus.
  Approximately 300 students are expected to take part in auditions Friday afternoon, rehearsals and a concert at 2 p.m. Saturday.
  Clinicians are Sheilly Bell from Dutchtown High School in Geismar, La.; Travis Coakley from Biloxi High School and Jennifer Cook from Biloxi Middle School. The students will audition for placement in one of the three bands directed by the visiting clinicians.

ACT Boot Camp coming up

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will hold an ACT Spring Boot Camp on March 22 for junior and senior high school students preparing to take the college entrance exam.
  The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the Science Building auditorium on the Poplarville campus.
  Instructor will be Dr. Jennifer Seal, a PRCC vice president and ACT prep specialist.
  Cost is $45 payable by check or money order to PRCC and designated for the ACT camp. The fee includes a study guide. Registration deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.
