PRCC plans for future in Hancock County

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College’s long-range plan is to build a new college in Hancock County in an effort to offer higher education opportunities that would aid local industry as well as the coastal workforce.

That goal received a $2.5 million boost this week when the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality announced that PRCC was one of the 19 new projects that will benefit from BP and Deepwater Horizon oil spill money.

POPLARVILLE - The big band sound comes to Poplarville on Tuesday, Nov. 28, with a performance by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra.

The Forrest County Center of Pearl River Community College will present an evening of holiday music on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
Making Spirits Bright is a fund-raiser for costs associated with bringing a donated grand piano to the center.

Classes resume and offices open at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27.

Alder named PRCC Humanities Teacher of Year

Cheri AlderA history and geography instructor at the Forrest County Center is Pearl River Community College’s Humanities Teacher of the Year. Cheri Alder will receive a $500 honorarium from the Mississippi Humanities Council at a Feb. 16 luncheon honoring teachers from across the state. The honor carries with it a requirement to present a public lecture about a topic of interest to the recipient.

Homecoming celebrates PRCC's roots

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College brought old friends together, made memories for future Wildcats and celebrated homecoming Saturday, Oct. 21, with an upset victory over a long-time rival.
  Men who played for Coach Dobie Holden from 1948-66 were on hand to see five fellow athletes inducted into the PRCC Sports Hall of Fame. They also saw Carmen Douglas of Sumrall crowned homecoming queen and the Wildcats beat the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs 31-27.

PRCC fall enrollment continues to rise

POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College enrolled more than 4,800 students this fall, a 6.3 percent increase over last fall, a sign that the two-year school continues to attract students in search of a quality education at an affordable price.
Figures compiled through Oct. 14 show 4,824 students enrolled at one of the three PRCC campuses, satellite locations or on line.
