ADA Conference/Presentation
PRCC Student Support Services
January 21, 2015 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

The Pearl River Community College Honors Institute will be hosting Michael Paravagna, ADA Consultant and Trainer, as part of the Institute’s Speakers Series, which is made possible through grant funding from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation (LPRVF).  Mr. Paravagna will be on campus in Poplarville on January 20th and 21st, 2015.  In addition to the presentation to the Honors Institute, Mr. Paravagna will conduct presentations for Administrators, Staff, and Faculty on the 20th.  He will also conduct presentations to the community and general public on the 21st.  We have attached the scheduled Itinerary for you to review and hope you will make a point to save the date, register, and attend this presentation.  Thanks to the generous support of LPRVF, there is no cost for the presentation, but you must register to attend.

Michael ParavagnaMichael Paravagna is passionate about advancing civil rights. In 1975, he started as a Counselor aide with the Department of Rehabilitation, and later became a rehabilitation counselor then moved into managerial positions, including chief of the Disability Access Section. It was there that he began to hit his stride, managing policy consultations, training, and physical access evaluation services.

With a desire to create a level playing field for everyone, Paravagna testified before the California Senate on legislation for reasonable accommodations of state employees, and discrimination against hiring people with disabilities. After testifying in Federal Court in Armstrong vs. Davis, Paravagna assisted the State in implementing changes on behalf of inmates with disabilities.

Paravagna has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the California Buildings Standards Commission, the State Personnel Board Select Advisory Panel on Programs - PRIDE and Appeals, and the Universal Design Advisory Board.

He served as a manager in the Los Angeles Community College District's ADA program until 2012, and prior to that served as the citywide ADA Coordinator for Sacramento. In the past he conducted training programs for the World Institute on Disability and frequently speaks at the National Association of ADA Coordinators conference where he also serves as National Treasurer.
