Pearl River Community College jumped on Itawamba for six runs in the top of the first inning, and never looked back in a 15-2 victory in five innings in the first game of the MACJC playoffs at Fulton.
The Wildcats (26-17) need just one win to take the best-of-three game series and advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. Game 2 is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, with the third game, if needed, to follow. Itawamba dropped to 30-15.
Redshirt freshman Bryson Medious drove in six runs with a double and a triple, the double coming in the first and the triple in the top of the fifth to put the 10-run rule into effect.
Sophomore Lucas Scott smacked a two-run home run to cap a three-run rally in the fourth, and also had an RBI single in the first, giving him three RBIs on three hits.
Sophomore Peyton Lee (7-2) scattered six hits, allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, then shutting out the Indians the rest of the way.
