Wildcats' playoff hopes suffer big blow in loss at Southwest

Travis HarperPearl River Community College saw its postseason hopes in men's soccer dim with a crushing 1-0 defeat to Southwest Wednesday at Summit.

The Wildcats put up a valiant battle against the Bears, but Jaime Delor’s goal in the 80th minute of play proved to be the difference. PRCC dropped to 5-8 and 3-5; Southwest improved to 11-4 and 4-4.

Freshman Travis Harper (Ocean Springs) had a solid game in goal for the Wildcats, saving five shots, giving him 58 saves for the season.

The Wildcats remain alive for a playoff berth, but they must win their final two games, Friday against Meridian and next Tuesday at Jones County, and both Southwest and Meridian must lose their last two games.

Meridian hosts Gulf Coast next week in its regular-season finale, while Southwest finishes at Gulf Coast on Saturday and at home against Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday.

Kickoff for Friday’s home finale is at 5 p.m. for the women’s game and approximately 7 p.m. for the men. Both games will be livestreamed on prccmedia.com.
