Pearl River Community College had a tougher time than expected against Meridian Friday night in men’s soccer, but the Wildcats pulled away for a 3-0 victory over the winless Eagles.
PRCC remained undefeated at 3-0 and 1-0 in the South Division; Meridian dropped to 0-4 and 0-1.
The Wildcats took the lead at 25:53 of the first half, when freshman Jevaun Ennis (Maypen, Jamaica) took a pass from redshirt sophomore Parker Rose (Bay St. Louis) for the go-ahead goal.
PRCC added an insurance goal when freshman Joe Elliot (Leicester, England) headed in a corner kick from Kyle Estess at the 72:19 mark. Sophomore Spencer Martin (Spring, Texas) got the final goal in the final seconds of the game.
For much of the game, the Wildcats played suffocating defense, holding the Eagles to just 11 shots and only four on-goal. Martin had five shots for PRCC, two on-goal.
PRCC will be back in action on Tuesday, in a South Division.
