Wildcats light up scoreboard in victory over Capital City

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College men scored in continuous waves Saturday afternoon, running to a 141-59 victory over Capital City Prep in junior college basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum.

The 8-0 Wildcats, who led the MACJC in scoring with 94.3 points per game coming into the game, did nothing to hurt that average in their first action of the new year and their first since Dec. 5.

Seven Wildcat players reached double figures in scoring, and everyone who played for PRCC got into the scoring column. Freshman Cedric Brim Jr. (Tupelo) scored 20 points, 14 in the second half, to lead the Wildcats.

Freshman Eric Thornton Jr. (Jackson) added 19 points, sophomore Brandon Cranford (Louisville, Ky.) had 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and sophomore Jerrod Rigby (Bay St. Louis) finished with 16 points.

Pearl River briefly traded the lead with the Crusaders before going on a 12-0 run over a four- minute span in the first half, and steadily added to the lead. The Wildcats led 69-34 at halftime.

The PRCC women’s game against LSU-Eunice that was scheduled for Saturday was postponed because of transportation issues for LSUE. Lady Wildcats head coach Scotty Fletcher said he hopes to reschedule the game, but no make-up date has been set.

Both PRCC teams will return to action on Tuesday at home against Delgado (La.). Tipoff for the women’s game is 5:30, with the men starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games will be livestreamed on prccmedia.com. Pearl River resumes division play next Thursday at Southwest.
