Wildcats, Lady Wildcats sweep Delgado

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College basketball teams were both successful in their return to action Tuesday night after the long holiday break, sweeping a pair of games from Delgado, La.
 
The Lady Wildcats snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 45-38 victory, and the Wildcats followed with a brilliant performance in a 115-73 rout.
 
The PRCC men spotted the Dolphins an early 3-2 lead, then went on an 11-0 run, and followed that with an 11-2 run to go ahead 27-7 with 12:21 to play in the first half. The Wildcats were never threatened the rest of the way as they won their fourth straight game.
 
Pearl River (7-3 overall) converted 45 of 74 shots from the field for the game (60.8 percent), including 10 of 18 from 3-point range, and placed six players in double figures, led by Jabari Craig’s 20 points off the bench.
 
Teddy Scott added 16 points, and Darrlyn Willis had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats. Markel Williams scored a game-high 25 points for Delgado (3-13).
 
The Pearl River women closed the first half on an 8-0 run, turning a 19-16 deficit into a 24-19 halftime lead, and never trailed in the second half.
 
Asia Thibodeaux led the Lady Wildcats (2-7) with 15 points, and Shaniqua Magee and Shelanita Starks each had 12 points for PRCC. Sierra Jackson scored 14 points to lead Delgado (3-12).
 
Pearl River will return to action on Thursday, hosting Mississippi Delta. Tipoff for the women’s game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.
