POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River men gave a good account of themselves, but fell short Friday afternoon as the Wildcats dropped a 4-0 men’s soccer decision to Eastern Florida State in a non-division game at Perkinston.
The Titans, ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA poll, improved to 6-0-2; the Wildcats dropped to 7-2 overall.
PRCC trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Eastern Florida put three goals into the net in the first part of the second half to pull away.
“We had two good chances to equalize before halftime, but were unlucky,” said Pearl River coach Jack Byrd. “In the second half, their pressure gave them more opportunities, and that led to them getting three goals in pretty quickly.
“But the first half you wouldn’t have seen much difference between the two teams. The second half, some of their experience won out with their international players.”
The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday as PRCC returns to South Division play with a doubleheader at Perkinston against Mississippi Gulf Coast. The women’s game kicks off at 5 p.m., with the men set for a 7 p.m. start.
