Wildcats drop pair of one-run games at Itawamba

Pearl River Community College baseball has made comebacks a big part of its game during a 10-game winning streak, and that was the case again Saturday in an MACJC doubleheader at Itawamba.

This time, however, it wasn’t enough as the ninth-ranked Indians swept the two games, winning the opener 5-4 in 12 innings, then holding off the Wildcats in the nightcap 7-6.

The losses knocked PRCC (15-7 overall, 6-2 conference) out of first place in the MACJC standings. Itawamba improved to 20-4 and 7-1.

In the first game, the Wildcats trailed 4-0 heading into the top of the ninth, then scored four runs to tie it up, but a hit batter and a run-scoring double with two out in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Indians the victory.

In Game 2, Pearl River scored three runs in the top of the seventh after trailing 7-3, and had the tying run at third base, when ICC got the final out of the game.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Wildcats as they return home Wednesday to battle No. 6 East Central in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. PRCC is back on the road next Saturday at Meridian.
