Wildcat hoops trio signs D-1 pacts

           POPLARVILLE --- Three Pearl River Community College Wildcat basketball standouts signed scholarships with Division I schools here Thursday.
            Point guard DeAngelo Coleman of South Pike High signed with Southeastern Louisiana, guard-forward Rakeem Esco of Canton High with Louisiana-Monroe, and guard Jeremy Hollimon of Gulfport High with Troy State (Ala.).
            Coleman averaged 9 points per game and four assists a year ago for the MACJC state champion Wildcat squad, while Esco averaged eight points an outing and Hollimon 11.
            “I look for these three to do well on the next level,” said 22nd-year PRCC head coach Richard Mathis. “They’re all talented guys with a solid work ethic. My congratulations go out to all of them.”
            At present, there are 10 former River standouts playing at four-year colleges or univerisities, including seven on the D-I level.
            Current Division I players include Daniel Grieves and Demondre Harvey with Louisiana-Monroe, Zane Knowles with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Yondarius Johnson and Frank Snow with Southern University (La.), Pedro Maciel with Nicholls State (La.), and Xavian Rimmer with Louisiana-Lafayette.
            Other four-year college or university players include Daron Bell with William Carey (Miss.), Josh Carpenter with Belhaven (Miss.), and Jimmy Henderson with Rust (Miss.).
