PRCC baseball, softball teams prepare for tough schedules

POPLARVILLE – Spring sports are right around the corner at Pearl River Community College, as the baseball and softball teams prepare for battle.

Coach Leigh White’s Lady Wildcats open an ambitious 47-game schedule on Feb. 1 with a Sunday doubleheader against Alabama Southern at Monroeville, Ala. PRCC then returns home on Feb. 5-6 to host the Wildcat Invitational. The Lady Wildcats will play LSU-Eunice and Calhoun, Ala., on Friday, and East Mississippi and Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday.

PRCC’s Northrop joins Carey softball program

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College sophomore softball player Branda Northrop has signed with Williams Carey University and will continue her college career with the Lady Crusaders.

Northrop, an outfielder who starred at Poplarville High, signed Thursday in a ceremony at M.R. White Coliseum. On hand were head coach Craig Fletcher and assistant coach Janessa Dedeaux representing Carey, and PRCC head coach Leigh White, assistant coach Kirsten Perry and the Lady Wildcat squad.

Lady Wildcats finish fall softball season with move to new field house

The Pearl River Community College softball team completed its fall exhibition season this past weekend, just in time to inaugurate a new era for the Lady Wildcat program.
PRCC is in the process of moving into its new softball field house, a state-of-the-art facility that head coach Leigh White calls, “one of the best in the state.
“We’ll have three batting cages inside, with a drop-down net, coaches’ offices, a pretty nice-sized locker room for the kids, laundry room, storage; it’s nice.”

PRCC Fall Softball Update

POPLARVILLE – The fall softball season is underway at Pearl River Community College, and the Lady Wildcats are looking ahead to next spring with a great deal of confidence.
“We want to get the freshmen up to speed on Wildcat softball,” said Leigh White, the veteran coach of the Lady Wildcats. “It’s a different pace at this level from what they’re used to.”
White, who enters her 14th season at the PRCC helm, will count on a solid group of returning sophomores to guide the newcomers to the program.

River softball standouts Hickman, Holloway named to MACJC All-State squad

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College softball standouts Rachel Hickman and Hannah Holloway have been named to the prestigious MACJC All-State squad, says Leigh White, who just wrapped her 13th season as head coach of the Lady Wildcats.
            Hickman, a Poplarville High alumnus who was a two-year pitching standout at PRCC for the past two seasons, earned All-Region 23 honors as a freshman. She finished her sophomore campaign with an 11-12 record, recording 153 strikeouts and walking 56 in 167.2 innings of action and an impressive 2.34 earned run average.

Lady Wildcat softball summer skills camp set June 1-2 at Pearl River Community College

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College softball will host its annual Wildcat Summer Skills Camp June 1-2 (Monday and Tuesday) in Lady Wildcat Stadium here on campus.
            The two-day camp is set for 9 a.m. until 12 noon for players ages six-to-15 years. Cost is $50 for pre-registered participants, while a $60 fee will be charged for those who register on the starting day of the camp. June 1 registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

River tackles East Central in opening game of MACJC State Tournament Friday at JCJC

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River’s fourth-seeded Lady Wildcats are one of four teams in the all South Division softball line up that sets the stage for the 2015 MACJC State Tournament that gets underway Friday in Community Park at host Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.
            Other teams in the double-elimination tournament include the second-seeded East Central Lady Warriors and the third-seeded Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs.

Lady Wildcats nip Lady Rangers 1-0 for MACJC State Tournament berth

SENATOBIA --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats copped one of four berths in this weekend’s MACJC State Tournament after trimming scrappy Northwest Mississippi 1-0 in the deciding game of a best-of-three series here Monday.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Hickman of Poplarville High won her second game of the series in as many days with a superb three-hit, 11-strikeout performance en route to the victory.
