River sweeps Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River swept Copiah-Lincoln MACJC South Division baseball action here Saturday in Wildcat Stadium with a 9-3 victory in a nine-inning affair before trimming the visiting Wolfpack 4-3 in the seven-inning nightcap game.
The host Wildcats improved to 19-15 overall and 6-8 in division play, while the Wolves dropped to 9-23 and 5-9.
The River fell victim of a sweep by CLCC played March 12 in Wesson with the Wolfpack taking 9-8 and 2-1 victories that both went eight innings.
After a scoreless first inning in the first game, Co-Lin went up 1-0 in the second when Mitch Little scored off a double by Dominic Savage, but Pearl River bounced back to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run barrage.
Lead off batter Tracy Hadley of Pascagoula High outran an infield grounder for a base hits before Kyle Dolan of Forrest County AHS walked. Darien Brown of Hattiesburg High then bunted and arrived safely at first via an overthrow, scoring Hadley.
After Derek Martin of Poplarville High was belted by a pitch to load the bases, Derrick Mount of Harrison Central High cracked a two-run double to make it 3-1. Nathan Pugh of Starkville High drove in the fourth run after reaching on a fielder’s choice only to be nailed for the final out at second.
The Wolfpack bounced back to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 4-3 in the top of the sixth when Andrian Brown, Ryan Young, and Stevie Hubbard led off the inning with consecutive base hits to load the bases. After Mitch Little popped out, Logan Smith smacked a two-run single to right to make to 4-3. Starter Jake Brumfield out of Adams Christian High in Natchez then walked Savage to reload the corners, which prompted his mound exit for Colton Lee of Pearl River Central High who struck out Wesley Watts to thwart the scoring threat.
The River padded its lead with a pair of runs in the seventh. Lead off Darien Brown walked and Lamar Anthony of Vicksburg High singled before Martin was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Mount struck out, Pugh cracked an RBI single to center and Kreg Garner of Northwest Rankin High drove in a sixth run with a sacrifice to center to make it 6-3 before Jalen Haskin of Oak Grove High flew out to center to end the inning.
The Wildcats scored the final three runs in the eighth when lead off Hadley crushed a stand up double to left field and Dolan walked. After Brown was retired, Anthony was belted by a pitch to load the bases and Mount cracked a two-run single an out later to make it 8-3 with Pugh following with an RBI double for the game’s final run.
Brumfield (5-2) picked up the win in his five-and-a-third innings on the mound, giving up eight hits, striking out three, and walking one, while Lee gave up a hit, recorded a strikeout, and walked a batter.
Wolfpack starter Blake Talbot (1-1) got the loss in his five innings of work, giving up four hits, striking out three, and walking two, while Alex Smith pitched an inning of relief, giving up a hit, striking out one, and walking one. Branden Canny pitched one-and-two-thirds, giving up three hits, striking out two, and walking one, while Tanner Parvin pitched the final out.

Like the first frame, both teams scored runs in the sixth, while the Wildcats scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh
