River splits on road at East Mississippi

SCOOBA --- Pearl River’s Wildcats split with East Mississippi in an MACJC baseball doubleheader here Monday, falling 11-10 in the nine-inning opening game before taking a 7-3 victory in the nightcap contest.
PRCC, which has been eliminated from any post-season contention, improved to 13-27 overall and 7-17 in league play, while playoff-bound EMCC is now 22-12 and 16-6.
In the first game, Wildcat Gage Teer of Brandon High had a huge day, belting two home runs and a single for four RBIs to pace The River at the plate.
The host Lions went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first before PRCC scored its first run in the second. East Miss padded its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the frame, before the Wildcats pushed in three in the third to make it 5-4.
After a scoreless fourth, PRCC took an 8-5 lead in the top of the fifth, but EMCC added its sixth run in the bottom of the inning. East Mississippi outscored Pearl River 3-2 in the sixth to pull to within one before scoring solo runs in the seventh and ninth to seal the victory.
Starter J’Daylin Jackson (8-1) picked up the mound win in his four-and-a-third innings of work, giving up nine hits and striking out two, while J.C. Redden relieved in the fifth. He went three-and-a-third, giving up a hit, striking out two, and walking one. Ryder Davis pitched the final inning-and-a-third, giving up three hits.
Carlos Lott (1-1) of Pascagoula High got the loss after relieving in the seventh. He went one-and-two-thirds innings, gave up a hit, struck out one, and walked two, while Brandon Brown of Eagle (Id.) High started and went two innings, giving up four hits and walking two. LSU signee Jacob Taylor of Picayune High relieved in the third, pitching four innings, giving up give hits, striking out three and walking two. Trey Grice of Forrest County AHS relieved in the eighth, walking one, and Southeastern Louisiana signee Derrick Mount of Harrision Central High gave up two hits in the ninth.
PRCC finished with 13 hits. Besides Teer, Chandler Ray of Poplarville High doubled and singled, while Jalen Haskin of Oak Grove High had two base hits (two RBIs), Carter Hankins of Forrest County AHS doubled, and Garren Berry of Petal High, Kreg Garner of Northwest Rankin High, Southern Miss signee Tracy Hadley, Jr. of Pascagoula High, Mount (one RBI), and Christian Smith of Pearl River Central High all had base hits.
Dylan Vuncannon paced EMCC’s 12-hit effort with a double and three singles (one RBI), while David Pimentel homered and singled (three RBIs), Emil Ellis and Taylor Stafford had two base hits each, J.C. Redden homered (three RBIs), and Ryder Davis doubled.
Pearl River committed one error in the game to East Mississippi’s two.
In the nightcap game, things were scoreless for the first two innings, but the Wildcats went up 2-0 in the third, adding a solo run in the fourth, two more in the fifth, and solo runs in the sixth and seventh. The Lions scored their three runs in the sixth.
Jordan Hayes (5-3) of Taylorsville High got the win in going the distance, giving up a meager four hits, striking out eight, and walking four, while Stafford (1-3) got the loss in his four-and-two-thirds innings on the mound. He gave up five hits, struck out four, and walked four, while Jake Bracewell saw an inning-and-a-third of relief work, giving up two hits, striking out two, and walking one. KeWayne McCray gave up a hit in the seventh, while Jay Booth gave up a hit and recorded a strike out in the frame.
Mount paced The River’s nine-hit attack with a home run and a single (two RBIs), while Hadley homered (two RBIs), Haskin, Garner, and Ray (one RBI) all doubled, and Brody Bray of Taylorsville High, Hankins, and Teer (two RBIs) all had base hits.
Ellis (two RBIs), JoVaughn McNabb, Pimentel (one RBI), and Drew Standland all had base hits for the Lions.
EMCC played error free, while PRCC had one defensive miscue.
Pearl River returns to action Saturday when hosts league foe Holmes for a 2 p.m. twin bill in Wildcat Stadium in Poplarville before wrapping its season with a 3 p.m. MACJC twin bill at Mississippi Gulf Coast Monday beginning at 3 p.m. in Perkinston.
