PRCC women’s basketball standouts sign with four-year colleges

POPLARVILLE – Two sophomore members of the Pearl River Community College women’s basketball team signed scholarship offers to four-year colleges Thursday in a brief signing ceremony at M.R. White Coliseum on the PRCC campus.

Sophomore guard Shaniqua Magee signed with the University of West Florida, in Pensacola, Fla., while sophomore guard Asia Thibodeaux inked with Tougaloo College in Jackson.

“It seemed like home for me, the atmosphere, the athletics and the team,” said Thibodeaux, a product of West Harrison High School who averaged 12.0 points a game for the Lady Wildcats this past season.

Magee, who came to PRCC after graduating from Collins High School, averaged a team-high 13.3 points per game in the 2015-16 season. She was a second-team All-MACJC selection and participated in the annual MACJC All-Star Game, where she scored 11 points.

“It just felt like it was the best fit for me,” said Magee of UWF, which competes in the Gulf South Conference in NCAA Division II. “I think there will be more opportunity for me there.”
