PRCC softball finishes busy month in recruiting

POPLARVILLE – There was no rest for the Pearl River Community College softball coaching staff, as they followed the fall practice season with a busy November on the recruiting trail.

Veteran head coach Leigh White announced that 14 high school seniors have signed to join the Wildcat program for the 2019 season, including three from Louisiana.

Signing with PRCC were Gracie Barnett of Vancleave; Autumn Clark, from Perry Central; Jenna Comeaux of Lafayette, La. (Comeaux HS); Breanna Corkern of Watson, La. (Live Oak HS); Brooke Fagan of Hancock; Shelby Gehrmann; from D’Iberville; Brianna Hargrove, of Oakdale, La.; Brooke Jordan, from Wayne County; Ashley McLeod, of Clarkdale; Hannah Rasberry, of George County; Whitney Seymore, of Gulfport, Jenna Smith, of D’Iberville, Grace Stringer, from South Jones, and Abigail Thexton, of Sumrall, who will play softball and soccer for PRCC.

Also, one Wildcat sophomore has signed a four-year college scholarship letter of intent during the early signing period. Shortstop Sarah Depperschmidt (Moss Point) signed with Belhaven University just before Thanksgiving.

Depperschmidt, who prepped at East Central High School, started all 42 games at shortstop for the Wildcats last spring as a freshman, hitting .258.

Pearl River opens its 2018 season on Feb. 3 at the Pensacola State (Fla.) Invitational. The Wildcats make their home debut on Feb. 7 against Alabama Southern in a 1 p.m. doubleheader, followed that weekend (Feb. 8-10) with the annual Wildcat Invitational.
