Pearl River sweeps Meridian

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept Meridian MACJC women’s and men’s South Division soccer action here Tuesday with the Lady Wildcats taking a 3-2 double-overtime victory, while the Wildcats were 4-1 victors.
            The twin bill was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to rain.
            PRCC’s women improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in division play, while its men are now 5-3 and 4-1. The visiting Lady Eagles dropped to 7-2 and 3-2, while the Eagles are 4-6 and 2-3.
            In the women’s game, Pearl River led 2-0 at the intermission off goals by Christina Gentry of Horn Lake High and Chelsea Parsons of Biloxi High via assists from Parsons and Kacy Mixon of East Central High, respectively.
‘           MCC’s Taylor Hanes and Kristen Morris scored goals in the second half and things were knotted up at 2-2 at the end of regulation. That stalemate remained intact after the first 10-minute OT period, but Gentry scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Holly Jackson of Biloxi High with 22 seconds left in the second OT to ice the win.
            In the men’s game, Mike Allizzo of Ocean Springs High led the way with two goals for the Wildcats, while Dyllon Beasley of Presbyterian Christian High and Austin Douglas of Gulfport High had solo scores. Justin Broussard of Ocean Springs High and Dillon Ladner of East Central High had assists.
            Meridian’s sole goal was scored by Evinn Watson off an assist by Kyle Roblin.
            The Wildcats led 2-1 at the half.
PRCC returns to action when MACJC non-division foe Hinds visits Wildcat Stadium Wednesday, Oct. 2, for 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) non-division games.
