Pearl River splits with Jones in MACJC South Division openers

            ELLISVILLE --- Pearl River Community College split with Jones County in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer openers here Saturday with the Lady Wildcats falling 2-0, while the Wildcats were 4-0 winner behind a four-goal effort from Mike Allizzo.
            PRCC’s women dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in division play, while its men are now 2-2 abd 1-0. JCJC’s women are now 4-0 and 1-0, while its men are 2-1 and 0-1.
            In the women’s game, things were at a scoreless stalemate at the half before Danielle Fortner scored both of the Lady Bobcats’ goals in the 51st and 82nd minutes.
            In the men’s game, Allizzo, a sophomore out of Ocean Springs High, put The River up 1-0 in the opening 20 seconds of the contest before JCJC’s Evan Buckely tied it up minutes later.
In the 30th minute, Allizzo regained the lead for the Wildcats only to see Buckley retie the score at 2-2 in the 78th minute. Alizzo scored his third goal off a free kick with 1:27 left, then his fourth with 8.9 seconds remaining in the game.
            PRCC returns to MACJC South Division action when Mississippi Gulf Coast visits Tuesday for 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) contests, then division foe Copiah-Lincoln visits Saturday for 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) games.
