Martin resigns as PRCC’s men’s soccer coach

POPLARVILLE – Paul Martin has resigned his position effective immediately as men’s soccer coach at Pearl River Community College.
Martin, in his fifth season as PRCC’s coach, resigned “for personal reasons.”
 “Coach Paul Martin has provided masterful leadership for the PRCC men’s soccer program in recent years as evidenced by his teams winning the past three MACJC state championships and the past three NJCAA regional championships,” said PRCC President William Lewis.

Lady Wildcats lose heartbreaker; Wildcats win with late goals

ELLISVILLE – Pearl River was within a minute of a big women’s soccer victory Friday night against Jones County, but couldn’t finish the deal.

Kelly Stubbington scored the tying goal with 52.3 seconds remaining in regulation, then got the game-winner at the 7:57 mark of the second overtime period to the Lady Bobcats a stunning 2-1 victory over the Lady Wildcats.

Wildcats’ Adam named MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College sophomore Grant Adam has been voted as men’s soccer Goalkeeper of the Week in the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges.
Adam garnered 11 of 13 votes in the weekly polling of MACJC sports information directors.
Adam, who prepped at Bay High, faced five shots on goal and had four saves in the Wildcats’ 3-0 victory over Meridian last week. He has played every minute of action thus far this season for PRCC.

PRCC soccer squads sweep past Meridian to remain undefeated

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College remained undefeated on the soccer field after sweeping a pair of matches against Meridian Tuesday at the PRCC Sports Complex.
The Lady Wildcats scored four goals in an 18-minute span of the first half, and rolled to a 6-1 victory, and the men followed suit with a workmanlike 3-0 win over the Eagles.
Both PRCC teams improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the South Division; Meridian’s women dropped to 1-3-1 and 0-2, while the men fell to 1-4 and 0-2.

Wildcats rally to beat Gulf Coast 2-1; Lady Wildcats win big 4-0

POPLARVILLE – Romar Smith was in the right place at the right time for the Pearl River men Friday night in MACJC soccer action at the PRCC.
Smith’s header off a corner kick by Cole Wooten with 6:11 to play in the game gave the Wildcats a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Gulf Coast in a rematch of last season’s thrilling MACJC State Tournament championship game.
PRCC, the defending state champions, remained undefeated at 3-0; Gulf Coast dropped to 2-2. It was the South Division opener for both teams.

Lady Wildcats cruise past Holmes 6-0 in soccer season opener

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River’s women opened their 2015 season on a successful note Friday afternoon, scoring a 6-0 victory over Holmes in soccer action at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

Freshman Kira Morrell of Laurel had two second-half goals as the Lady Wildcats pulled away from the punchless Lady Bulldogs (1-1).

PRCC started slow, but picked it up late in the first half with a pair of goals two minutes apart. Sarah Fortenberry got the first goal of the season by knocking in the rebound on a shot off the crossbar by Hailey Furlan.

Pearl River women, men eyeing district play for national berths

POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s MACJC-Region 23 women’s and men’s championship squads enter district play this weekend with hopes of capturing a berth in their respective NJCAA National Tournaments set for Nov. 17-22 (Monday through Saturday).
PRCC’s men’s squad (12-4-1) travels to Mt. Pleasant, Tex., Friday to play for the South District title against host Northeast Texas CC (17-2-1) at 2 p.m., while its women (12-4-1) travels to Melbourne, Fla., to tackle host East Florida State CC (11-1-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday for the District H championship.

River women, men MACJC-Region 23 soccer champions

ELLISVILLE --- Pearl River’s Wildcat and Lady Wildcat soccer squads are the 2014 MACJC-Region 23 champions after defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hinds, respectively, here Sunday in the women’s and men’s title bouts played at Jones Junior College.
The two teams duplicated the twin champ feat during the 2012 season, while the Wildcat squad have claimed the men’s title for three straight years.
PRCC’s women improved to 12-4-1 overall, while its men are now 11-4-1. Hinds’ women dropped to 12-5-2, while Gulf Coast’s men fell to 15-5-1.

River sweeps Co-Lin

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept Copiah-Lincoln in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Friday with the Lady Wildcats shutting out the Lady Wolfpack 4-0, while the Wildcats were 3-1 victors.
            PRCC’s women improved to 8-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in division play, while its men improved to 8-4-1 and 7-2. CLCC’s women dropped to 0-15 and 0-8, while its men are now 2-12-1 and 0-8.

River splits at Meridian

    MERIDIAN --- Pearl River Community College split in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Wednesday with the Lady Wildcats falling to the host Meridian 2-1, while the Wildcats took a 4-1 victory.
    PRCC’s women dropped to 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in division play, while its men improved to 7-4-1 and 6-2. MCC’s women improved to 3-9-1 and 4-5-1, while its men are now 5-10-1 and 4-5-1.
