PRCC soccer teams set to play in MACJC State Tournament semifinals Friday at Hinds

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College soccer teams will be back in action after a 10-day break on Friday in the MACJC State Tournament.
Tom Shepherd Field on the Hinds Community College campus at Raymond will be the site for all tournament games. The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but was moved up a day because of concerns about potential bad weather Saturday afternoon. The semifinals will be played Friday, with the championship games on Saturday.

Pearl River’s Gustafson named MACJC Player of the Week

POPLARVILLE – For the second week in a row, a member of the Pearl River Lady Wildcats soccer team has been named Offensive Player of the Week in the MACJC.
Sophomore midfielder Delaney Gustafson was named Women’s Offensive Player of the Week in voting this week by conference sports information departments.
Gustafson had four shots, including two on goal, and scored the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into the second overtime period to give PRCC a dramatic 2-1 victory over Jones County. The win clinched the South Division championship for the Lady Wildcats.

Pearl River soccer stars named MACJC Players of the Week

POPLARVILLE – A pair of Pearl River Community College soccer standouts have been honored by the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges as Men’s and Women’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Sophomore forward Lyndsey Lee was named Women’s Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore forward Chance Bourdene was recognized as Men’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Lady Wildcats knock off Jones for South Division title

POPLARVILLE – Turnabout was fair play for the Pearl River Community College women Tuesday night as they avenged their only defeat of the season.
Sophomore Delaney Gustafson knocked in a goal just 20 seconds into the second sudden-death overtime period to give the Lady Wildcats a dramatic 2-1 victory over Jones County in a soccer showdown for the South Division championship.

Pearl River soccer overpowers Southwest

SUMMIT – The Pearl River Community College soccer teams had another huge day as they both rolled over Southwest Mississippi Friday afternoon in South Division action.

Lyndsey Lee scored two goals, improving her state-best total to 15 goals for the season, to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 5-0 victory over the Lady Bears, and Chance Bourdene had a hat trick and added two assists in a 7-0 victory for the PRCC men.

The Pearl River women (12-1 overall) stayed in position for the South Division championship with the victory at 8-1 in the division.

Pearl River soccer rolls to easy sweep over Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE – Winless Copiah-Lincoln was no match for the Pearl River soccer teams Wednesday night, as the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats were shutout winners in South Division action.
Lyndsey Lee had a hat trick, scoring three goals, and she added an assist as the PRCC women defeated the Lady Wolves 8-0, and Parker Rose scored twice in the first 10 minutes to set the Wildcats on the road to a 6-0 win in their game.

Wildcats roll over Gulf Coast 3-0 in soccer showdown

PERKINSTON – The expected men’s soccer showdown for first place in the South Division proved to be anticlimactic Wednesday night as Pearl River rolled past Mississippi Gulf Coast 3-0 at the MGCCC soccer field.

The Wildcats improved to 8-2 overall and remained undefeated in the division at 5-0 with their second victory of the season over the Bulldogs (9-4, 4-2). The win completed a sweep of the soccer doubleheader, as the Lady Wildcats were also winners, by a 1-0 score.

PRCC sweeps to dominant wins over East Central

POPLARVILLE – It was a night of dominance for the Pearl River soccer teams Wednesday as the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats were big winners over East Central in an MACJC non-division doubleheader at the PRCC Sports Complex.
Pearl River crushed the previously-undefeated Lady Warriors from start to finish 7-1 in the women’s game, and the Wildcats used a brilliant second half to roll to a 5-0 win.
PRCC’s teams both improved to 7-1 overall; ECCC’s women dropped to 8-1, while the Warriors dropped to 4-7-1.

Martin resigns as PRCC’s men’s soccer coach

POPLARVILLE – Paul Martin has resigned his position effective immediately as men’s soccer coach at Pearl River Community College.
Martin, in his fifth season as PRCC’s coach, resigned “for personal reasons.”
 “Coach Paul Martin has provided masterful leadership for the PRCC men’s soccer program in recent years as evidenced by his teams winning the past three MACJC state championships and the past three NJCAA regional championships,” said PRCC President William Lewis.

Lady Wildcats lose heartbreaker; Wildcats win with late goals

ELLISVILLE – Pearl River was within a minute of a big women’s soccer victory Friday night against Jones County, but couldn’t finish the deal.

Kelly Stubbington scored the tying goal with 52.3 seconds remaining in regulation, then got the game-winner at the 7:57 mark of the second overtime period to the Lady Bobcats a stunning 2-1 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
