Lady Wildcats jumpstart season with big win at Delta

Pearl River Community College overcame a somewhat slow start and pulled away to defeat Mississippi Delta 68-46 Thursday night at Moorhead in a successful restart of the 2016-17 season.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 6-1 overall; MDCC dropped to 1-8.

PRCC trailed 16-13 after the first quarter, but took command in the second period, outscoring the Lady Trojans 21-8 to lead 34-24 at halftime, and the Lady Wildcats were never threatened in the second half.

Pearl River finished with 49 rebounds, to just 26 for Mississippi Delta, and got 23 steals, six by freshman Rehema Franklin (New Orleans) and five by Elexis Peyton (Jackson).

Franklin had 24 points, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range, to lead PRCC. Charisma Walker added 9 points and 7 rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday in another non-division contest against Delgado at New Orleans.
