Lady Wildcats drop second straight in loss at Hinds

Pearl River Community College has struggled shooting free throws all season, and Thursday night it proved costly in a 63-56 loss to Hinds in women’s basketball action at Utica.

The Lady Wildcats (8-3 overall, 1-3 in division) dropped their second straight game in the South Division. Hinds improved to 9-3 and 2-2.

Pearl River came into the game shooting less than 60 percent from the foul line, and had its worst free-throw shooting night of the season against the Lady Bulldogs, hitting just 6 of 18 foul shots.

Nevertheless, PRCC led 29-28 at halftime and 48-43 after three quarters. But Hinds went on an 15-4 run over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to take the lead, and held off the Lady Wildcats the rest of the way, as Pearl River was just 2 of 10 from the line in the final period.

Redshirt freshman Rehema Franklin led Pearl River with 15 points. Freshmen Adyn Strickland, Charisma Walker, Cotoria Blackmon and Destiny Williams each had 8 points for the Lady Wildcats, and Williams also had 8 rebounds.

PRCC returns home to battle East Central at 5:30 p.m. Monday at M.R. White Coliseum, then the Lady Wildcats travel to Gulf Coast on Thursday.
