POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College started strong and finished stronger Tuesday night, returning to action with a 71-31 victory over Delgado in women’s junior college basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats (6-2) led throughout in their first game back after the Christmas holiday break. Delgado dropped to 2-11.
PRCC broke open the game with its defense, forcing nine turnovers in a decisive 9-1 run to take a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Wildcats maintained a comfortable lead through the second and third periods, leading 33-18 at halftime, then put the game away in the fourth quarter, as redshirt sophomore Rah Franklin (New Orleans) scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the final 10 minutes.
Sophomore Tyasia Willis (Camden) had her second consecutive double-double, with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and sophomore Charisma Walker (Brandon) had 13 points and 9 rebounds.
PRCC forced 25 turnovers and held the Lady Dolphins to just 13 points in the second half.
Pearl River will return to South Division play on Thursday at Southwest, followed by the first Cat Fight of the season against Jones County next Tuesday at Ellisville.
