Lady Wildcats 5-0 winners in MACJC quarter-final bout over Northwest Mississippi

    POPLARVILLE --- The reigning MACJC-Region 23 champion Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats shutout Northwest Mississippi 5-0 here Tuesday in the women’s MACJC-Region 23 quarter-final match and will race North champ and host Hinds Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the tournament semi-finals in Raymond.
    PRCC’s South champion men, also the reigning state and regional champs, will face South No. 3 Jones County at 1 p.m. Saturday after the Bobcats defeated North No. 2 Northwest in its quarter-final battle Tuesday in Senatobia. The Lady Wildcats improved to 13-2 with the win, while the Lady Rangers ended their season at 8-4-2.
    In Tuesday’s women’s game, Karly Mitchell of Poplarville High put The River up 1-0 in the ninth minute of the contest with a goal off an assist by Natalie Lechner of Pascagoula High, while Lechner followed with a goal of her own in the 43rd minute off an assist by Chelsea Parsons of Biloxi High.
    Just over a minute later, Christina Gentry of Horn Lake High booted the final goal of the half off an assist by Kacy Mixon of East Central High.
    Mitchell dished off an assist to Mixon to open the second-half scoring with a goal in the fourth minute, while Laken McBroom of Resurrection Catholic High scored the game’s final goal in the 23rd minute of the second half. Mitchell got the assist.
    The winners of Saturday’s semi-final games will play for the state and regional championships Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).

The NWCC women’s  and men’s seasons end. The MACJC state championship games are set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).
