Wildcats Fry, Talley selected in MLB draft

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College pitchers Brandon Fry and Christian Talley have been selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.
            Fry, a sophomore out of Nease High in Jacksonville, Fla., was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres; while Talley, a sophomore who prepped at Hancock County High, was picked in the 26th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
            Both have already signed with the University of Southern Mississippi’s Golden Eagles.

Host Pearl River wraps season with 5-0 defeat to top-ranked LSU-E in Region 23 Tournament

            POPLARVILLE — Host Pearl River Community college wrapped a remarkable 2013 season with a 5-0 setback to second-seeded and top-ranked LSU-Eunice (La.) to hand the Bengals their second straight regional championship in the Region 23 Tournament here Saturday in Wildcat Stadium.
            PRCC, which finished the year at 41-13 overall, opened regional play with a 12-1 win (eight innings) over top-seeded MACJC champion East Central on Thursday before falling into the loser’s bracket via a 7-3 setback to LSU-E 7-3 in the second round on Friday.

Host Wildcats one of four teams vying for prestigous 2013 Region XXIII title

            POPLARVILLE — Pearl River Community College plays host to the 2013 Region XXIII Baseball Tournament Thursday through Saturday (possibly including Sunday) here in Wildcat Stadium.
            Fourth-seeded PRCC (39-12), the MACJC South Division regular-season champion, earned  hosting rights via its 7-3 win over Northwest Mississippi in the opening round of the MACJC State Tournament before being eliminated with a 7-6 (10 innings) loss to eventual state champ East Central and a 16-4 (six innings) setback to NWCC.

Host Pearl River eliminated from MACJC Tournament via ECCC, NWCC setbacks

            POPLARVILLE — Eighth-ranked Pearl River’s hopes of its first state championship in nearly a decade vanished here Saturday as East Central and Northwest Mississippi pulled off a pair of back-to-back victories in the MACJC State Tournament.
            ECCC, which went on to claim the state title with a 4-0 win over NWCC on Sunday, pulled off a 7-6 victory over the host Wildcats before Northwest eliminated PRCC with a lopsided 16-4 (six innings) bombardment to wrap Saturday’s action.

Signa’s one-hitter propels East Central to MACJC title over Northwest 4-0

            POPLARVILLE — Right hander Severino Signa hurled a one-hit, 4-0 shutout to lead East Central Community College to the 2013 state championship over Northwest Mississippi in the MACJC State Tournament title bout here Sunday in Wildcat Stadium on the Pearl River CC campus.
            ECCC, 30-19, will now enter the Region 23 Tournament next Thursday through Saturday as the No. 1 seed. That event will also be played at PRCC.

Pearl River 7-3 winner over Northwest in opening round of MACJC Tournament

            POPLARVILLE — Eighth-ranked and South Division champ Pearl River pulled off a 7-3 opening-round victory over Northwest Mississippi here Thursday in the four-team MACJC State Tournament underway in Wildcat Stadium.
            East Central opened the event with a lopsided 19-1 (five innings) victory over North champ Northeast Mississippi.
            PRCC improved to 39-10 overall with its win, while NWCC dropped to 29-15. ECCC is now 29-19, while NEMCC is 30-17.
