Hinds sweeps Baseball Wildcats with extra-inning heartbreaker

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College baseball let another game slip through its fingers Tuesday, and the result was another MACJC doubleheader sweep on the road, this time to Hinds at Raymond.

The Wildcats fell behind 8-0 in the opener before rallying late in an 8-5 defeat, then let a 4-2 lead slip away in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap, and the Eagles won it 5-4 with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Wildcats split pair at home against Itawamba

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College mounted a comeback for the ages in the opening game of an MACJC doubleheader Saturday against Itawamba, but couldn’t sustain its momentum in the second game.

The Wildcats overcame a 9-1 deficit in the first game of the twinbill at Wildcat Staidum to win 11-10 in 10 innings, but the Indians rallied in the final two innings to take a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.

PRCC reached the halfway point in conference play at 2-12 overall and 5-9 in conference. Itawamba is now 15-13 and 3-9.

Wildcats earn split of doubleheader against Southwest

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College shook off a lop-sided loss in the first game, coming back to gain a split of an MACJC doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi Tuesday at Wildcat Stadium.

The Bears roughed up the Wildcats 17-2 in the opener, but PRCC won the nightcap 4-2, behind a complete-game effort on the mound from John Carter Sanner.

Pearl River finished the day 19-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play. SMCC is now 16-7 and 6-4.

PRCC moves baseball, softball games up to Tuesday due to weather forecast

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College has moved its MACJC baseball and softball doubleheaders at Wildcat Stadium up a day, from Wednesday to Tuesday, because of expected rainy weather in the Pine Belt the middle of this week.

The Wildcat baseball team will host Southwest Mississippi in a 4 p.m. doubleheader, while the PRCC softball team will host fourth-ranked Jones County in a doubleheader, also scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.

Wildcats swept in doubleheader at Northeast

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College continues to struggle in MACJC baseball play, as the Wildcats dropped both ends of a doubleheader Friday afternoon against Northeast Mississippi at Booneville.
 
The Tigers dropped the Wildcats 13-2 in the first game of the doubleheader in seven innings, then posted a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.
 
PRCC dropped to 18-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play; Northeast improved to 14-12 and 5-3.
 

Wildcats split pair against East Central

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College split a doubleheader against East Central Tuesday in MACJC action at Decatur.

The Wildcats used a six-run fourth inning uprising to build a big lead and held on for a 7-6 victory in the opener that snapped a three-game losing streak, but the Warriors came back to hand PRCC a 4-3 defeat in the nightcap.

In the first game, Lucas Scott’s three-run home run powered the Wildcats’ big inning, and Tyler Reid added an RBI double and Gage Teer had a run-scoring single to give Pearl River a 6-1 lead.

Wildcats drop pair in MACJC doubleheader at Northwest

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College took it on the chin twice Saturday afternoon in an MACJC doubleheader against Northwest Mississippi at Senatobia.
 
The Rangers dropped the Wildcats 7-1 in the first game of the doubleheader, then rolled to an 11-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.
 
PRCC (17-7 overall, 2-4 conference) outhit the Rangers 9-8 in the first game, but the Wildcats could only muster a run n the top of the sixth inning off Northwest starter Colt Smith (2-1), who struck out seven and walked three.
 

Wildcats split MACJC doubleheader at Coahoma

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Coahoma Friday afternoon in MACJC action at Clarksdale.
 
The Wildcats struck late for a 6-3 victory in the opener, but the Tigers took a 5-4 extra-inning win in the nightcap.
 
PRCC (17-5 overall, 2-2 conference) broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, then added an insurance run in the ninth.
 

Sanner lifts Wildcats to doubleheader split against Gulf Coast in league opener

POPLARVILLE – Sophomore right-hander John Carter Sanner saved the day for Pearl River Community College Tuesday night in the second game of the Wildcats’ MACJC-opening doubleheader against Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Sanner went the distance for Pearl River in a 5-3 victory that gave the Wildcats a split of the two games at Wildcat Field, after the Bulldogs had rallied to win the opener 11-9 in 10 innings.

Sanner (4-0) scattered four hits, struck out eight batters – the last one for the final out of the game with runners on second and third. He walked two and hit two batters.

Baseball Wildcats sweep doubleheader at Baton Rouge

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College continued its sizzling start at the plate Sunday afternoon in sweeping a baseball doubleheader at Baton Rouge (La.).

The Wildcats rolled over the Bears 9-2 in the opener, then completed the sweep with a 12-4 victory in the nightcap.

PRCC (13-3) broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning in the first game, highlighted by Jonathan Turner’s two-run double, and added three more runs in the sixth. Turner was 3 of 4 for the game. Gage Teer had a triple and Tyler Reid had a double.
