Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Funding is available to PRCC students in the following qualified Career, Technical, Allied Health, and Workforce Programs:

Career Programs-1 year programs (3 semesters)

  • Practical Nursing (LPN)
  • Welding
  • Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
  • Electrical
  • LPN to RN Bridge Program

Technical Programs- 2 year programs (4 semesters

  • Biomedical Equipment Repair
  • Business Marketing and Management
  • Drafting and Design
  • Electrical Technology
  • Electronics
  • Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
  • Utility Lineman
  • Instrumentation Technology
  • Welding and Cutting

Allied Health Programs

  • Medical Laboratory
  • Occupational Therapist Assistant
  • Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Respiratory Care Technology
  • Associate Degree Nursing (RN)
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Surgical Technician
  • Dental Hygiene

Short-Term Training

  • Commercial Truck Driving
  • Pipefitting
  • Shipfitting
  • Welding
  • Electrical

These funds can cover up to $6000 of a student’s school expenses (tuition, books, program fees, and certification exams)

The next application periods to apply for WIA are:

Summer Semester
April 21, 2014 – May 5, 2014
Note: Summer Classes must be required for the program in order to apply during this application period

Fall Semester
June 23, 2014 - July 8, 2014

How to apply for WIA:

  • Applications for WIA are completed at your nearest WIN Job Center once a semester during the application period.
  • You must provide two forms of Identification (Social Security Card, State Issued Picture ID, Birth Certificate, etc.)
  • You must provide proof you been accepted or are currently enrolled in an eligible program in the form of an Acceptance letter from PRCC.
  • Exceptions:

  • Short-term Programs can apply year round
  • Students in a 2 year program must have successfully completed 12 semester hours of the program or prerequisites prior to applying.
