POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College''s women''s and men''s soccer squads split with MACJC South Division rival Jones County here Saturday with the Lady Wildcats falling 2-1 to the Lady Bobcats and the Wildcats taking a lopsided 5-1 victory. PRCC''s women fell to 9-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in division play, while its men are now 10-2-1 and 3-2-1. JCJC''s women, who clinched the South Division title with the win and will now host the MACJC State Tournament set for Oct. 21-24 ini Ellisville, improved to 10-2-1 and 5-1; while its men are now 6-7 and 2-4. The Lady Bobcats defeated the Lady Wildcats 1-0 Sept. 14 in Ellisville, marking PRCC''s first loss of the season; while the Wildcats trimmed the Bobcats 2-1 the same day. In Saturday''s women''s game, Danica Roberts scored both goals for JCJC, including the game-winner in the final minute of play. After battling to a scoreless 0-0 stalemate at the half, Santana Adams of Hurley (East Central High School) scored for the Lady Wildcats to take a 1-0 lead before Roberts scored her first goal to re-knot things at 1-1. In the men''s game, Tyler Szura of Forrest County AHS scored three goals, while Jamarius Gray of Hattiesburg High and Curtis Sangbarani of Aberdeen, Scotland, added solo scores for the Wildcats. Jake Benton kicked JCJC''s only goal of the game in the first half, while two of Szura''s scores and Gray''s goal propelled The River to a 3-1 lead at the intermission. Pearl River''s women return to action Monday when it hosts Dartonn College (Ga.) at 3 p.m., then both squads resume MACJC South Division play Saturday with a road trip to Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson (women 5:30 p.m., men 7:30 p.m.). rival Jones County at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men).
