PRCC hosts high school Skills USA competition

POPLARVILLE - Close to 400 visitors spent Tuesday, Feb. 22, on the campus of Pearl River Community College for Region III Skills USA competition.Approximately 350 high school students, teachers and advisors were on hand for the competition along with 68 judges, including PRCC faculty and industry representatives.First place winners in each of the 19 competition categories advance to the state Skills USA competition on April 15 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College -Jeff Davis Campus.Winners are:Architectural drafting - Ryan Groth of Harrison County Vo-Tech Center, first; Gabriel Roland of Moss Point Career and Technical Education, second; and Linton Koch, Forrest County Agricultural High School, third.Automotive service technology - Daniel Merrill, Jackson County Technical Center, first; Ethan Ladner, Gulfport High School, second; Curt Davis, George County High School, third.Cabinetmaking - Brennon Pyle, Keys Technology Center in Ocean Springs, first; David Quave, Biloxi High School, second; and Rusty Clark, Harrison County Vo-Tech, third.Carpentry - Michael Haynes, Wayne County Vo-Tech, first; Tyler Rule, North Forrest High School, second; and Dalton Barber, Harrison County Vo-Tech, third.Extemporaneous speaking - Skyler Helman, Biloxi High School, first; James Shaffer, Keys Technology Center, second.Job interview - Adell Wagner, Biloxi High School, first; Haden Hinton, A.P.
