Wildcats Fry, Talley selected in MLB draft

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College pitchers Brandon Fry and Christian Talley have been selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.
            Fry, a sophomore out of Nease High in Jacksonville, Fla., was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres; while Talley, a sophomore who prepped at Hancock County High, was picked in the 26th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
            Both have already signed with the University of Southern Mississippi’s Golden Eagles.
            Fry, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound left hander, wrapped with 2013 season with a perfect 5-0 mound record and boasted a team-best 2.40 earned-run average. He struck out 51 batters in 48.2 innings of mound work, while also leading the squad with six saves. Fry, who transferred to The River from Northwest Florida State, was a second-team All-MACJC selection.
            Talley, a 6-foot-four, 190-pound right hander, led the team with 92.2 innings and recorded 92 strikeouts over that stretch. He finished the season with a 9-5 record and 2.62 earned-run average. Talley was a first-team All-MACJC selection.
