CLINTON — Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats wrapped their 2013 softball season with an 8-0 (five innings) loss to top-ranked LSU-Eunice (La.) Saturday in semi-final action of the Region 23 Tournament underway at Traceway Park.
PERKINSTON — The South No. 4 Pearl River Lady Wildcats were eliminated from the MACJC State Softball Tournament here Monday with a 3-2 semi-final loss to reigning state champion and South No. 2 Jones County.
The victorious Lady Bobcats, ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division II softball poll, went on to defeat South No. 1 host Mississippi Gulf Coast 9-6 with another comeback victory to repeat as MACJC champs. Seventh-ranked MGCCC defeated South No. 3 East Central 7-3 in Monday’s other semi-final contest.
PERKINSTON — Brittany LeBlanc pitched a one-hit shutout to propel Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats to a lopsided 15-0 (five innings) softball victory over Itawamba here Sunday in opening-round action of the MACJC State Tournament underway at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.
The Lady Wildcats, the South Division No. 4 seed, will now face South No. 2 and eighth-ranked Jones County, a 7-1 winner over North No. 3 Holmes to open Sunday’s tournament play, at 12 noon Monday. The winner of that contest will earn a berth in the state championship bout at 5 p.m.

POPLARVILLE — Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats split with East Central’s Lady Warriors in MACJC South Division softball action here Saturday to wrap the regular season for both teams.
Heading into the doubleheader, PRCC and ECCC had already copped berths in the MACJC State Tournament set for Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston next Thursday and Friday, but the split ensured the Lady Warriors of the South’s third-place seed. The Lady Wildcats enter the event as the fourth seed behind South champ MGCCC and second-place Jones County.
POPLARVILLE — Playoff-bound Pearl River gave No. 1-ranked LSU-Eunice (La.) all it could handle here Tuesday, falling to the reigning national and regional champions via a pair of one-run doubleheader defeats in Lady Wildcat Stadium.
The Lady Bengals out of Eunice, La., were 4-3 and 7-6 winners in the twin bill, improving to 50-4 overall. The Lady Wildcats, on the other hand, dropped to 23-19.
POPLARVILLE — Pearl River Community College secured at least the No. 4 seed in May 2-4's MACJC State Softball Tournament here Saturday with its doubleheader sweep over Hinds in Lady Wildcat Stadium.
PRCC improved to 23-17 overall and 12-10 in division play with its 8-0 and 2-0 shutout victories and eye one more division twin bill in the regular season against current No. 3 East Central this Saturday.
