River splits with Delta

            MOORHEAD — Pearl River Community College split with Mississippi Delta in women’s and men’s MACJC non-division basketball action here Thursday with the Lady Wildcats falling 61-45, while the Wildcats picked up their 10th win of the season via a 62-50 victory.
            PRCC’s women dropped to 4-6 overall, while its men improved to 10-1. MDCC’s women improved to 6-4, while its men are now 3-7.
            On Nov. 12 in Shivers Gym in Poplarville, the Lady Wildcats were 59-55 losers to the Lady Trojans, while the Wildcats took a 71-57 victory.
            In the women’s game, Delta led 33-23 at the intermission before outscoring Pearl River 28-22 in the second half to take the 16-point win.
            Kalisha Washingtonn out of Murrah High in Jackson led PRCC with 10 points, while Lolecia Richardson out of Provine High in Jackson added eight. Francheska Bowman out of Choctaw High in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Rebekah Harwell out of M.C. Perry High in Iwakuni, Japan, scored six each; Chaquita McGee of Yazoo City High five, Valescia Dixon of East Marion High three, and Jeronda Beason of Poplarville High two.
            The Lady Torjans had three hit in double figures led by Ashanti Spencer with a game-high 16 points, while Z’Hara Williams added 15, and Cedrica Cooper 13. Krystal Nailer scored five, Shuntequa Lofton four, India Overstreet and Suzzette Suggs, three each; and Myiesha Stewart two.
            In the men’s game, Pearl River led 34-28 at the break then outscored the Trojans 28-22 in the second half to take the 12-point win.
            Three Wildcats hit in double figures led by Jeremy Hollimon of Gulfport High with 24, while Xavian Rimmer, an Alcord State transfer who prepped at Piney Woods School near Jackson, added 13, and DeMondre Harvey of Minden (La.) High 11. Kaven Bernard out of Assumption High in Napoleonville, La., scored four; Frank Snow, a San Angelina CC (Tex.) transfer who prepped at Sagemont high in Wellington, Fla., three; Devontai Foye of Hattiesburg High, Daniel Grieves, a U.S. Air Force Academy transfer who prepped at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, and Jimmy Henderson, a Northwest Mississippi CC transfer who prepped at Houston (Miss.) High, two a piece; and Rakeem Esco of Canton High one.
            Anthony McDonald led Delta with 19 points, while Marquarius Boddie added nine, Jaimiason Hadley seven, Gregory Junearick five, James Evans and Johnny Rucker, four each; and Marcus Springs two.
            Pearl River returns to action Monday when it travels to MACJC South Division rival Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston for games at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) before hosting division foe Southwest Mississippi Thursday, Jan. 17, in Shivers Gym for game at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men).
