POPLARVILLE — Two Pearl River Lady Wildcat standout softball players have been selected as a ‘Player of the Week’ by the MACJC and NJCAA for the week of April 29 through May 5.
Shortstop Kaci Lantrip out of Terry High School was honored as the state and national POW as a position player, while pitcher Brittany LeBlanc out of North Vermillion High in Maurice, La., was named POW as a pitcher.
Lantrip, a freshman, was instrumental in Pearl River’s 15-0 five-inning shutout victory over Itawamba in opening-round action of the MACJC State Tournament, going two-for-three at the plate with a double, a home run, and five runs batted in. Thus far into the 2013 season, she had belted six doubles and five home runs.
LeBlanc, a sophomore, was the winning pitcher against Itawamba, throwing a one-hitter, striking out four, and walking one. Thusfar into the season, she leads the Lady Wildcats with a 2.87 earned-run average and 98 strikeouts in 132 innings. LeBlanc is 11-9.
