Pearl River earns split of doubleheader at Meridian

simon landryPearl River Community College shook off a run-rule defeat to earn a split of an MACJC baseball doubleheader Saturday at Meridian.

Meridian built a 10-2 lead after two innings and coasted to a 14-4 win in seven innings in the opener, but the Wildcats rolled a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

Wildcats drop pair of one-run games at Itawamba

Pearl River Community College baseball has made comebacks a big part of its game during a 10-game winning streak, and that was the case again Saturday in an MACJC doubleheader at Itawamba.

This time, however, it wasn’t enough as the ninth-ranked Indians swept the two games, winning the opener 5-4 in 12 innings, then holding off the Wildcats in the nightcap 7-6.

The losses knocked PRCC (15-7 overall, 6-2 conference) out of first place in the MACJC standings. Itawamba improved to 20-4 and 7-1.

Wildcats sweep doubleheader at Pensacola State

Pearl River Community College finally got going offensively in baseball Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader at Pensacola State (Fla.).

PRCC overcame a 1-0 deficit with three-run rallies in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings en route to a 10-2 victory in the opener, then got two home runs from freshman Simon Landry to spark a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

PRCC scored its first two victories after starting the season 0-4; Pensacola dropped to 6-13.

Wildcats swept in doubleheader against Dyersburg State

Superior pitching and timely hitting proved too much for Pearl River Community College Friday afternoon as the Wildcats suffered a doubleheader setback against Dyersburg State (Tenn.).

The visiting Eagles rapped out 13 hits and rode a dominating performance on the mound from freshman Seth Wyse in a 11-3 win in the opener, then took a 5-0 lead and held on to prevail 5-2 in the nightcap.

PRCC dropped to 0-4 for the season; Dyersburg improved to 11-1.

Tickets still available for Inky Johnson appearance at Brownstone Center

inky johnson Tickets are selling briskly for A Night with Inky Johnson, presented by Pearl River Community College Baseball, but plenty of tickets remain available.

Johnson is a former football player for the University of Tennessee who suffered a serious injury while playing for the Volunteers in 2006 that left him with partially paralyzed and in constant pain.

Wildcat baseball making plans for busy preseason

michael avalonThe first pitch of the 2017 baseball season is approximately two months away, and first-year Pearl River Community College coach Michael Avalon has a busy preseason planned for the Wildcats.

Avalon is most excited about bringing in Inky Johnson for a speaking engagement on the PRCC campus.
