Baseball Wildcats place seven on MACJC All-State teams

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College had seven players recognized in the 2016 MACJC All-State Baseball Team, which was announced on Monday.

Sophomore Zachary Clark of Springfield, La., was the only Wildcat player to earn first-team All-State honors.

The transfer from Southeastern Louisiana who has signed to play for Alabama, batted .325, with a .423 on-base percentage while playing mostly at shortstop this season. He had 11 home runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples and drove in a team-high 41 runs. He also stole 23 bases and drew 28 walks.

Baseball Wildcats swept at Holmes to finish season

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College completed its 2016 baseball season on a down note Tuesday afternoon, dropping both ends of an MACJC doubleheader to Holmes at Goodman.

The Wildcats were held scoreless and mustered just eight hits over the two games in 10-0 and 4-0 defeats. PRCC, which had already been eliminated from playoff contention, finished 25-21 overall and 10-18 in conference play. Holmes finished its season 22-22 and 13-15.

Baseball Wildcats split doubleheader against East Mississippi

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College closed out its home schedule for 2016 by splitting an MACJC doubleheader Saturday against East Mississippi at Wildcat Field.

The Wildcats rallied from a 6-2 deficit to win the opening game of the doubleheader 7-6, but dropped the nightcap 8-4.

PRCC (25-19 overall) remains mathematically alive for the playoffs at 10-16 in conference play, but the Wildcats will need to sweep Holmes on the road Saturday in their regular-season finale, and get some help from other teams to have a chance at postseason.

Baseball Wildcats strike late to sweep twinbill from Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College used some late-inning magic to take a doubleheader sweep against Copiah-Lincoln Tuesday at Wildcat Field.

The Wildcats scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win Game 1 5-4, then took the sweep with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-4 victory in the nightcap.

PRCC kept its flickering playoff hopes alive at 9-15 in MACJC play (24-18 overall). Co-Lin dropped to 9-26 and 4-16.

Baseball Wildcats salvage doubleheader split against Mississippi Delta

POPLARVILLE – Sophomore Peyton Lee delivered a miuch-needed clutch pitching performance Saturday afternoon, allowing the Pearl River Community College baseball team to salvage a split of an MACJC doubleheader at Wildcat Field.

Lee went the distance, pitching a two-hitter in a 4-1 Wildcat victory in the nightcap, after PRCC let a two-run lead slip away in the ninth inning of the opener, which the Trojans eventually won 13-11 in 12 innings.

Jones County rolls over Wildcats in baseball doubleheader sweep

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College took it on the chin twice Wednesday night in dropping a doubleheader to Jones County at Ellisville.
The fourth-ranked Bobcats clubbed four home runs, including a grand slam by Tanner Huddleston, in a 20-1 pounding of the Wildcats in the first game of the twinibill, then took the nightcap 8-3.

PRCC dropped to 21-17 overall, but just 6-14 in conference play. JCJC improved to 33-3 overall and leads the MACJC by four games at 16-2 in conference.

Baseball Wildcats earn doubleheader split against Meridian

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College capped a wild day of baseball Saturday by pulling out a much-needed victory in the second game of an MACJC doubleheader against Meridian.

Justin Demary’s fourth single of the game drove Lucas Scott with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 11-10 victory in the second game, after the Eagles took a 15-13 win in the opener.

The win kept PRCC’s flickering playoff hopes alive at 6-12 in conference play (21-15 overall). Meridian remained in second place in the conference at 26-6 and 11-5.

Hinds sweeps Baseball Wildcats with extra-inning heartbreaker

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College baseball let another game slip through its fingers Tuesday, and the result was another MACJC doubleheader sweep on the road, this time to Hinds at Raymond.

The Wildcats fell behind 8-0 in the opener before rallying late in an 8-5 defeat, then let a 4-2 lead slip away in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap, and the Eagles won it 5-4 with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Wildcats split pair at home against Itawamba

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College mounted a comeback for the ages in the opening game of an MACJC doubleheader Saturday against Itawamba, but couldn’t sustain its momentum in the second game.

The Wildcats overcame a 9-1 deficit in the first game of the twinbill at Wildcat Staidum to win 11-10 in 10 innings, but the Indians rallied in the final two innings to take a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.

PRCC reached the halfway point in conference play at 2-12 overall and 5-9 in conference. Itawamba is now 15-13 and 3-9.

Wildcats earn split of doubleheader against Southwest

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College shook off a lop-sided loss in the first game, coming back to gain a split of an MACJC doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi Tuesday at Wildcat Stadium.

The Bears roughed up the Wildcats 17-2 in the opener, but PRCC won the nightcap 4-2, behind a complete-game effort on the mound from John Carter Sanner.

Pearl River finished the day 19-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play. SMCC is now 16-7 and 6-4.
