Tickets still available for Inky Johnson appearance at Brownstone Center

inky johnson Tickets are selling briskly for A Night with Inky Johnson, presented by Pearl River Community College Baseball, but plenty of tickets remain available.

Johnson is a former football player for the University of Tennessee who suffered a serious injury while playing for the Volunteers in 2006 that left him with partially paralyzed and in constant pain.

PRCC baseball hosts meet-and-greet event

Pearl River Community College baseball coach Michael Avalon greeted his inaugural Wildcat team, and their families, Sunday afternoon in a meet-and-greet session at Wildcat Stadium.

Avalon, who came to PRCC after five seasons as the head coach at Mississippi Delta, told the gathering that he is where he always wanted to be as a coach.

“I came here when I was at Holmes for a region in 2001, 2002, and I thought, “now this is a baseball atmosphere,’” Avalon said. “I said, ‘this is where I want to end up.’ This is my dream job.”

PRCC to host baseball showcase for high school players

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College will host a second baseball showcase and tryout session on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Wildcat Stadium on the PRCC campus.

A showcase earlier this month on the PRCC campus drew approximately 55 high-school and recently-graduated players.

The tryout is open to any players entering grades 9-12 this fall. College and professional scouts will be on hand to observe.

PRCC baseball players sign with four-year college programs

POPLARVILLE – A trio of Pearl River Community College baseball players have signed letters of intent to continue their playing careers at four-year programs.

Sophomores John Carter Sanner and Carter Hankins both signed to play for Northwestern State (La.), while freshman Peyton Lee signed with Southern Miss.

Sanner, a right-handed pitcher out of Oak Grove, was 3-4 as a freshman in 2015, with a 5.08 earned-run average. He had 44 strikeouts and 18 walks in 51 1/3 innings. As a sophomore in 2016, he was 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 20 walks in 71 2/3 innings.

PRCC to host baseball tryout, showcase

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College will host a baseball showcase and tryout session on Wednesday, July 6, at Wildcat Stadium on the PRCC campus.

The tryout is open to all recently-graduated seniors who have not signed with another college, and the showcase is open to any players entering grades 9-12 this fall.

Head coach Michael Avalon and his staff will put participants through a complete series of drills, including 60-yard-dash times, batting practice, throwing, hitting and fielding fungos, fielding ground balls and fly balls, and bullpen time for pitchers.
