PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S ATHLETIC tradition spans most of this century and includes some of the most prominent and memorable sports figures, athletes, and coaches in junior college history.

During the 2005-2006 school year, PRCC won a third-straight MACJC state championships; upping its total of an unprecedented 18 titles. In 2004, the Wildcats won their second-ever NJCAA national championship with a perfect 12-0 record. And that followed a record-setting accomplishment during the 2003-2004 school year when the Wildcat athletic program boasted an unprecedented four men's state titles in soccer, football, basketball, and baseball.

Pearl River began as an agricultural high school in 1909 and as a junior college in 1921. It officially became the pioneer - the FIRST - junior college in Mississippi and the first in the Gulf South.

Soon after its founding, PRCC began successful competition in athletics - first on the high school level and later as a junior college. In the early years, Pearl River was the first - in fact, the only - junior college to compete in athletics. That’s why the first few years of competition were against such foes as Mississippi College, Louisiana University (now LSU), and the Mississippi State Teachers College (now the University of Southern Mississippi).

Thousands of PRCC graduates have excelled in every line of endeavor and in doing so have left a legacy of unprecedented accomplishments. In 1922, PRCC compiled a 7-2 record and went undefeated over the next three years with a perfect 23-0 record.

In 1925, Perkinston, Hinds, and other familiar names began appearing on the schedule. From 1925 until 1927, Pearl River won three consecutive state championships, kicking off a winning tradition that has never ended.

Pearl River is known for its competitive athletic spirit - whether its baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, football, and women’s softball.

PRCC athletes are guaranteed an opportunity to not only participate in a quality athletic program, but to receive an excellent education in the process. Wildcat athletes have excelled in all areas of achievement. Today, a winning tradition at The River is as vibrant and alive as it has been throughout its long and colorful history.
